Greetings Blue, you won't recall me but I saw you play quite a few times in the '60s. I was in the same class in St Joseph's primary school as Bernard Poyser and in 1967 I was a frequent visitor at Mel Allsopp's flat at 6 Angus St. Anyway, I attended the famous Hendrix tour at Sophia Gardens and even managed to blag our way backstage. Memories a bit hazy, I remember Neil's family sitting in the front row, and him taking photos of them. The Move doing a great version of Morning Dew has stuck in my mind. Went around the back of the pavilion and saw Jimi, who talked to us through a window and as we passed the Queen's Hotel in Westgate St, the Move were leaving and getting into their car. spoke to Roy Wood who was very friendly and he told us they had a new single out soon called the Fire Brigade.Spent a few years working with Clive Taylor's dad George. on British Rail (Sadly George has passed away). Great site, glad to read about you...loved your keyboard work.
All the blessings

Thanks Blue, I emailed Clive last year and he remembered the gig but not the other June dates. He said Terry suggested Ambrose Slade and he was going ask 'the others' about it. He is no longer available on email and I've not heard anything from him since?

It was obviously very close to the band breaking up and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich also broke up around the same time. I can only assume that these June Tour dates must have been at a very unstable time. Were you still with Don Arden at that point?

Hi Mickey! Yes I remember this gig as my Auntie Ada lived just outside Newcastle in Blyth and always came to any gigs we did in the area but can't recall any of the others, if any, we played with A Slade at that time. We did however play the Newcastle City Hall on the Hendrix tour. Sorry if I have any recollections I will let you know or post here.

Hi Blue,

I've just found my way here. This is an great site that I will spend a lot of time working through. It's really interesting to hear that AC toured with Hendrix. They, of course, were managed by Chas Chandler and he went on to manage Slade. I arrived here at your site because I am researching Ambrose Slade, who played with AC and Dave Dee in Newcastle, June 6th 1969. That was the first of five June dates but I can't find evidence of the other dates happening. Any memories of this Blue?

Sometimes when I think about this I have to question if I dreamt it, but no it's a fact. I wish I had a photograph.

Now this is interesting because I keep saying to people that I remember seeing Jimi Hendrix at a club in London and thought it was the Speakeasy. When I tell some of my younger friends who are very impressed I sometimes think to myself, am I making this up, or did it really happen? So, what you have said here means I'm not an old lady telling tall stories. Thank you.
